Hi! My name is Laura, and I am starting this blog for myself but I would be delighted if others read it, as well. About 3 years ago, I really started digging into my family history. I am so not an expert in genealogy, but I would love to get professionally certified someday. I took some classes on archives while in library school, so it would not be a giant leap for a career change.
My intent is to document the timeline of my findings, so I have a record of how far I have come and also keep me motivated. So far, I have discovered where in Germany two of my lines originated and where in Ireland one did. I have also discovered that my grandmother's grandmother, who I knew was French-Canadian, is a descendent of one of the King's Daughters (Filles du Roi) and where in France she and her future husband lived before sailing to Canada and meeting there. I learned that one of my ancestors came over from Germany and fought for the Union. I found a newspaper article about the accidental shooting death of one of my great-grandfather's brothers, and it went into such detail about the family and the circumstances that I could not help but be moved to tears.
I am doing all this research to learn about the type of people I came from and to see them echoed in the mirror and in the faces of my children. I am looking forward to the many blog posts of my progress!
